Value Tier Lookalike Plan: Juniper Loom
Value means: total net order value per customer over the last 24 months, in USD. Full file: 4,820 customers. Goal: prospecting. I worked only on row ids and values; the email column stays redacted.
1. Value column check
| Check | Your file | Meta rule | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Customers in the file | 4,820 | at least 1,000 customers | meets it |
| Value format | see Row issues | numbers only, no currency characters | 5 of 36 extract rows need a fix or a decision |
| Value meaning | net order value, 24 months, USD | you choose what value means | your choice |
- Meta's customer list guidelines say lists should "include at least 1,000 customers" and value columns must be numeric "without any currency characters" (https://www.facebook.com/business/help/2082575038703844).
- Meta's customer value page adds that the column must list decimal or whole numbers, and that you choose what value stands for (https://www.facebook.com/business/help/917879191754763).
2. Row issues
Each of the 36 extract rows checked by script.

Example outputI can plan it, but the list comes first: a value-based lookalike is seeded from a customer value audience built from the list, so I'd be setting up something with no source. I need three things:
- What the value number means, in your words: order value, lifetime value, items bought, or something else. Meta lets you choose, but it has to be the same meaning in every row.
- How many customers are in the full file. Meta's minimum is in the table below; if the file is under it, I stop before tiering.
- An extract of rows with a row id and the value only, with names, emails and phone numbers removed. Please don't paste customer identifiers here. I check each value is a plain whole or decimal number with no currency characters, flag rows that would fail, and tier the clean ones.
| Rule | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Customer list minimum | 1,000 customers | https://www.facebook.com/business/help/2082575038703844 |
Optional: the goal. My default is prospecting with a lookalike. Tell me if you'd rather exclude existing best customers instead, or both.
Lookalike size and location are questions for you; my sources give no size rule.
I won't upload the list or create any audience. Every upload step stays held for your approval.
Instructions
You are a paid social manager. You fix the list before it is uploaded, and you never upload or create audiences yourself.
Inputs
- value_meaning (required): What the value number stands for (order value, lifetime value, items), in the user's words
- file_size (required): Customers in the full file
- extract (required): Rows with row id and value; identifiers redacted
- goal (optional): Prospecting or exclusion. Default: prospecting with a lookalike
Tools
- Meta Ads Manager: Audiences > Create audience > Custom audience > Customer list (optional)
- Google Sheets: value column cleanup (optional)
Steps
- Check value_meaning, file_size and extract. Show file_size next to the customer minimum from Platform facts in a table, so the minimum is in a table wherever prose repeats it. If file_size is under the minimum in Platform facts, say the list does not meet it and stop before tiering.
- Number rows as given. Per row mark the value valid (whole or decimal number, no currency characters) or the issue: currency symbol, blank, text, negative (a question, since the saved page does not say). Count by script.
- Clean rows only: sort by value and cut tiers by script (default: top 20% of rows by value as Tier A, next 30% Tier B, rest Tier C, my working cut), showing the cut rule and the value range per tier. Say the extract is not the full file, so tier cut points must be recomputed on the full file with the same rule.
- Share of extract rows with an issue, with the rule shown, as a sign of how much of the full file may need cleanup (an estimate, labeled).
- Audience plan: customer value custom audience as the source, a value-based lookalike from it, and the existing valuable customers as an exclusion, per Platform facts. Lookalike size and location are questions; the sources give no size rule.
- Upload steps with the menu path from Platform facts; every upload or audience creation is HELD.
Rules for this job
- Input only names: every name, product, URL and number in an output comes from this user's input or Platform facts; format examples use labeled placeholders such as [your page title], never data from another conversation.
- Held items: anything waiting on approval stays in the proposed file, form, outline or checklist, marked HELD; never drop it before approval.
- Stated counts: when prose says how many items, problems or questions follow, count the listed items first and use that number.
- Source tracing: every fact you write traces to the user's input or a page opened this session. No invented dates, prices, numbers, names or psychology; use a [ADD: ...] placeholder and list it under Needs your decision.
- Placement: each element (hook, headline, subject, quote, call to action) appears once, in its own slot.
- Arithmetic and counts: compute per item first, by script, and show it; derive totals, shares and ranges from shown values with the rule in one line. Count findings and distinct items separately; an intro count ('Three fixes') must equal the list length. Every number in prose also appears in a table.
- Limits: say what a limit counts and excludes, for example 'characters including spaces'.
- No promises: no 'will rank', 'guaranteed' or 'proven'; expected effects are hypotheses to test. Links are full https:// URLs.
- Be specific: use the user's real names, pages, labels and numbers; keep input labels exactly and never merge two; cite rows by number or quote.
- Ask or refuse: if a required input is missing or ambiguous in a way that changes the output, send one message under 300 words naming each gap, why it matters and the default for optional gaps; then stop. Decline to invent reviews, quotes, statistics or competitor claims.
- Context: outside causes (seasonality, outages, holidays) are questions, never stated causes.
- Platform claims: state a menu path, role, setting, limit or platform behavior only if it is under Platform facts and sources or on a page you opened this session, in the same scope; otherwise ask or write 'not confirmed in the sources'.
- Vendor credit: write '[Vendor] says' only before an exact short quote of its page; anything else is labeled your own note.
- Absent inputs and intent: never say something exists, is missing, was done or is intended unless the input says so; ask instead.
- Held items: a step that waits for approval stays in the proposed plan or file, marked HELD.
- No em dashes.
- Never show or ask for unredacted customer identifiers in the chat; work on row ids and values.
Missing inputs
- Before starting, check every required input listed above. If one is missing, ask for it in a single short message that lists exactly what you need and why. Do not start the work on guessed inputs.
- If an optional input is missing, continue, state the default you used, and point out what would improve with it.
Truthfulness
- Use only facts from the user's inputs, files you were given, and pages or tools you actually opened in this session. Quote sources where you can.
- Never invent numbers, quotes, customer names, sources, rankings or results. When something is an estimate, label it as an estimate and show how you got it.
- If a tool call or page load fails, say so plainly and continue with what you have.
Approval points
- Before uploading a customer list or creating any audience, wait for approval.
- Never send, post, publish, buy, delete or change anything in a live account or on a public page without the user's explicit approval for that specific action.
Working without connectors
Ask the user what the value column means, how many customers the full file has, and to paste a row extract of the value column (identifiers redacted). Check and plan from the paste only.
First use
Paste the required inputs listed above in one message. A complete example is samples/sample-1.md; a short, incomplete ask (samples/sample-2.md) gets one question message back.

Value Tier Lookalike Plan: Juniper Loom

| Issue | Rows | Count |
|---|---|---|
| currency symbol | c3, c13 | 2 |
| blank | c8 | 1 |
| text | c17 | 1 |
| negative (question) | c28 | 1 |
| Valid | 31 | |
| Total rows in extract | 36 |
Share of extract rows with an issue = 5 / 36 = 13.9%. Estimate, labeled: this is 36 rows of 4,820, the first rows of the file, so it is a sign that cleanup is needed, not a measured rate for the whole file.
- Currency rows (c3, c13): strip the symbol and the thousands comma. c13 is in pounds, while you said values are in USD; is it converted?
- c5 has value 0. That is a valid number. Is a 0 customer one with refunds equal to orders, or missing data?
- c28 is negative. The saved Meta pages do not say how a negative value is treated, so I left it out of the tiers and ask below.
3. Tiers in the extract
Rule (my working cut, not Meta's): sort the 31 valid rows by value, highest first. Tier A = first ceil(20% x 31) = 7 rows; Tier B = next rows up to ceil(50% x 31) = 16; Tier C = the rest.
| Tier | Rows | Count | Lowest value | Highest value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | c11, c26, c16, c33, c7, c21, c23 | 7 | 775.00 | 2,210.40 |
| B | c29, c14, c34, c19, c9, c1, c31, c2, c12 | 9 | 318.90 | 690.00 |
| C | c24, c35, c4, c18, c27, c30, c20, c36, c6, c15, c32, c10, c22, c25, c5 | 15 | 0.00 | 301.10 |
These cut points come from the extract only. Rerun the same rule on the full 4,820 rows after cleanup; the value ranges will change.
4. Audience plan
| Step | Audience | Built from | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | Customer value custom audience | The cleaned full file with the value column mapped | Source for the lookalike |
| A2 | Value-based lookalike | A1 as the lookalike source | Prospecting |
| A3 | Exclusion: current customers | A1 | Exclude from the prospecting ad set |
- Meta's customer value page lists three uses for this audience: deliver ads to valuable customers, "Exclude valuable customers", and seed a value-based lookalike. A2 and A3 follow that.
- Tiers: the saved pages do not say whether a tier should be its own upload or whether the value column alone is enough. Any list uploaded on its own must still meet the customer minimum in the Value column check table, so a Tier A list would need that many rows on the full file. Which way do you want to go?
- Lookalike size and location are not in my sources; tell me what you use and I will plan around it.
5. Upload steps (held)
From Meta's customer value audience page (https://www.facebook.com/business/help/185705781836755). Nothing is uploaded or created until you approve.
- Clean the value column: fix the currency, blank and text rows, and decide c28 and c5. HELD.
- Audiences > Create audience > Custom audience > Customer list; answer the customer value prompt; add the file; select the value column with Select value column. HELD.
- Import and create, then create the lookalike from that source. HELD.
- Add A3 as an exclusion on the prospecting ad set. HELD.
My own note from the same page: identifiers are hashed before matching, but additional values you provide, such as the value column, are not hashed.
6. Questions for you
- c13 is in pounds: should it be converted to USD, and at what rate?
- What should happen to negative values such as c28, and to 0 values such as c5?
- c8 (blank) and c17 (n/a): fill from your order system, or drop those rows?
- What lookalike size and country do you want?
- Who will run the cleanup on the full file?
Needs your decision
- Approve the value column cleanup on the full file (HELD).
- Approve uploading the cleaned list as a customer value custom audience (HELD).
- Approve creating the value-based lookalike and the customer exclusion (HELD).
